This is a very fine pua songkit from the ULU AI region of Sarawak. It was collected in the early 80's. The hand spun cotton fibers in this piece are unusually fine and the color and motif would indicate it dates from the mid 19th century. The motif is called Singlong Borong, who is the princilple god of warfare showing stylized limbs and torso decorated with human skulls. 76" x 44" (195 x 111 cms). In Kuching. this pua was described to David by a pua expert and descendant of one of the Iban's mosty revered master weavers as a masterpiece, on a par with a Picasso or Van Gogh and would be coveted by any museum in the world. The best piece in our collection. We got it from Dan Cook in 2000
